In a major investment between now and 2030, Virgin Atlantic will transform its fleet to offer an increased cabin size in both the Upper Class and Premium Economy cabins. With a mixed fleet of 45 100% next-generation fuel-efficient aircraft, including 19 A330-900s, 12 A350-1000s, and 14 787-9s, with an average age of just under seven years, the $17 billion transformation will be completed in stages beginning in Q3 2026.

How are Virgin Changing Their Upper Class?

New Airbus A330neos

Virgin Atlantic will take delivery of 10 new A330neos from Q3 2026. These aircraft will be configured to increase the Premium Economy and Upper Class cabin size, with 48 Upper Class seats (up from 32) and 56 Premium seats (up from 46). The big news is the inclusion of an additional 4 Retreat Suites after first being introduced in 2022, now bringing the total to 6 per aircraft. With the private space boasting a 6’7″ fully flat bed, a 27″ touchscreen entertainment unit, and the ability to share the space by using the ottoman as a additional seating for dining, work, or play, the Retreat Suites have proved popular with Virgin’s Upper Class passengers.

A 787-9 Fleet Reimagined

Rolling out from 2028, Virgin’s Boeing 787-9s will receive a full cabin re-design including new seating in all cabins. Increasing in cabin sizes from 31 Upper Class seats to 44, and with Premium seats up from 35 to 56, Virgin Atlantic’s increase in its Upper Class offering is evident. For the first time, the Retreat Suite will also be introduced to the 787-9, with eight seats available in every Upper Class cabin.

How Else are Virgin Atlantic Increasing Their Upper Class Offering?

Free Streaming-Quality Wi-Fi

After being the first airline to introduce Wi-Fi across its whole fleet, Virgin Atlantic are now taking it further with a partnership with Starlink, the world’s fastest and most reliable inflight connectivity. Free, streaming-quality Wi-Fi will become available across the entire fleet, with the installation to begin in Q3 2026 and be completed by the end of 2027. This will include unlimited usage for every guest that signs up to Flying Club.

A New Clubhouse Experience

Following the updates made to the Los Angeles Clubhouse and its relaunch in March 2025, a multi-million-pound investment will focus on the refurbishment of both the London Heathrow and New York JFK Clubhouses. The perfect respite from the the busy airport terminals, the Virgin Clubhouses are a significant benefit for passengers flying Upper Class.

Luxurious New Onboard Amenities

A new partnership between Virgin Atlantic and Votary is providing Upper Class passengers with indulgent wellness at 38,000 feet. The first stage of the partnership will see Votary products such as face creams and mists, multi balms and hand creams as part of the Upper Class amenity kit from the beginning of 2026.

A New App and Increase Membership Benefits

From December 2025, Virgin’s new mobile app is designed to make the user experience faster, simpler, and smarter. Designed to be a personal travel companion from booking to boarding and beyond, it has been built for Flying Club members to be able to utilise all their membership benefits easily, but also guiding regular passengers through their journey seamlessly. All this on top of the improvements to their Flying Club membership benefits introduced in 2024. These included recognition for guests with multi-year loyalty who may not travel enough for tier status progression, reward flights counting towards status, non-expiring points, and Unlimited Availability of reward seats on every flight.
