Okay, so this isn’t our usual type of article, but that said, we love the royals and we love travel! So what are the Royal destinations where they go on holiday?
British royals are known to travel the world for both official and personal purposes. While their official visits are well-documented, their personal travel destinations are often kept more private. However, some holiday destinations that have been visited by British royals have become popular.
Let’s start close to home. This one is way off our usual itineraries, but nevertheless, Balmoral Castle is the Scottish residence of the British royal family and is without question one of their favourites. It has been a holiday destination for generations of royals and was particularly popular with the former Queen and Prince Philip. The castle is set on beautiful grounds, with plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities like fishing and hiking.
This year the grounds, gardens, and exhibitions at Balmoral will open to the public from Saturday 1st April 2023 until Wednesday 16th August 2023. It’s a fantastic day out which need not break the bank!
Mustique is a private island in the Caribbean, known for its luxurious villas and beautiful beaches. It is a right royal destination and has been a popular holiday spot for British royals for several decades. In fact, it was on Mustique that Princess Margaret, sister of Queen Elizabeth II, built her own holiday home. The Prince & Princess of Wales also reportedly spent their honeymoon on the island.
Klosters is a picturesque ski resort in the Swiss Alps, which has been visited by several members of the British royal family.
King Charles III, in particular, is known to be a fan of Klosters, and has been skiing there for many years. The resort is known for its excellent skiing facilities, stunning mountain scenery, and gastronomic delights.
Courchevel is another popular ski resort that has been visited by British royals. It is part of the Trois Vallées ski area, which is the largest ski area in the world, and a personal favourite of ours. HRH Prince William and HRH Princess Catherine have been spotted skiing in Courchevel, and the resort is known for its luxurious facilities, high-end shopping, and once again, super French cuisine!
Last but definitely not least is St. Tropez. A glamorously royal holiday destination on the French Riviera, it remains highly Instagrammable and well known for its beautiful beaches and lively nightlife.
This beautiful coast has been visited by several members of the British royal family, including the then Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Indeed the late Diana, Princess of Wales also visited Mohamed Al-Fayed’s family on holiday in St. Tropez. The town is popular with celebrities and wealthy holidaymakers and is a great place to soak up some sun and enjoy the Mediterranean lifestyle.
In conclusion, these are some of the most visited holiday destinations by British royals in recent years. From luxurious Caribbean islands to picturesque Swiss ski resorts, these destinations offer something for everyone, and are sure to remain popular with the royals for many years to come!
