For many years Dubai has been an aspiration holiday destination, and one of the ultimate bucket list entries.
However, growing numbers of travellers are realising that not only is it easier to get to than they imagined, it’s also possible to visit this UAE state in style for an affordable price.
This is making it a magnet for discerning holidaymakers – families and couples – who want the best experiences and level of care, without the price tag that often goes with ‘once in a lifetime’ vacations!
The realisation that flight times from London to Dubai are less than seven hours also helps to boost this as a destination for annual breaks, as well as special occasions.
With many alternative holidays in the sun becoming rather ‘same-ish’, Dubai offers a frisson of holiday excitement due to its entirely unique, ultra-modern panache. Everything feels new and fresh about this sun-drenched holiday location, from its luxury hotels to its pristine manmade beaches. There’s also all the innovative facilities and fun you could possibly want; including stellar retail opportunities, jaw-dropping skyscrapers, abundant water sports and world-class nightlife.
The growing demand for Dubai holidays means airline companies are starting to compete by offering cheap business class flights.
All the big names you would expect are on the list of airlines that fly into Dubai International Airport, including those who offer excellent Business Class cabins. This includes British Airways, Lufthansa, KLM, Air France and Swiss Air. There are also great Dubai holiday flights with Kuwait Airways, Middle East Airlines and Gulf Air too.
However, as this is your holiday, you deserve the best, right? That is undoubtedly Emirates. It may not be the cheapest business class or first class ticket you’ll ever buy, but it will certainly give you tremendous value for money on your premier flight.
Emirates is – of course – highly regarded for its outstanding customer service and the huge amount of careful thought that goes into both its airport lounges and aircraft layouts. We’re talking luxury travel, with a company that’s justifiably racked up numerous awards for business class services.
It’s often the little touches that set them apart, including the complimentary chauffeur-driven ride to the airport.
The Emirates’ airport lounges are outstanding – not just for ambience and comfort, but also choice and standard of cuisine and alcohol, served by staff trained to be incredibly discrete and unobtrusive, while still being attentive to your every whim.
That same lavish customer service extends to your business class seat on one of Emirates’ modern aircraft. The superbly designed business class chair-beds have all the space you need for your legs, elbows and other bodily parts, even when you’re amply proportioned.
The level of privacy is high, as is the standard of entertainment and cuisine as you fly to Dubai. Coupled with an easy passage through check-in and security, it’s possible to confidently claim that the Dubai holiday relaxation and fun can start while you’re still many miles away!
It’s hard to sum up in a few words what’s available to see and do in Dubai, particularly as this UAE state is constantly developing new and wonderful ways to make holidays memorable.
Let’s quickly whizz through the more obvious attractions in Dubai, such as opportunities to lie on palm-fringed beaches by gloriously warm, shimmering waters, and to enjoy romantic excursions to watch a desert sunset. Dubai is also well known for its record-breaking (and gravity-defying) architecture. Burj Khalifa – the world’s tallest building – has observation decks providing unforgettable views. The vast Dubai Mall and the utterly charming musical Dubai Fountain are at its base.
As you might expect from a region so dedicated to pleasing tourists, you can expect thrills and delights galore in theme parks, including the largest indoor theme park on the planet, IMG Worlds of Adventure, and the massive immersive gaming centre Hub Zero. Jet skis and sky diving are among the ‘everyday’ adrenalin rush activities on offer or sail across the desert sands in a hot air balloon. For something very ‘different’ on Dubai holidays, you could try sandboarding down gigantic dunes, stay overnight in the mountain town of Hatta for kayaking and hiking; or get up close to desert-dwelling wildlife at the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve.
If you’re a culture vulture, Dubai won’t disappoint. It holds firm to its traditions and heritage amidst the modern splendours. Something that’s vividly illustrated in the Al Shindagha Museum. Ironically, its gripping ‘Dubai Creek: Birth of a City’ presentation is delivered using advanced multimedia technology!

This same combination of traditional values married to modern concepts runs through Dubai hotels. Much of the holiday accommodation in this UAE state is lavish, with the emphasis on making every guest feel cossetted and valued. The customer service is truly awe-inspiring.
Of course, there are holiday apartment rentals in Dubai, and even small bed and breakfast places to stay in UAE states such as this. However, if you’re going to vacation in a place that’s world-renowned for its superb hotels, why compromise?
One of the best examples is The Palace at One&Only (Royal Mirage) Dubai. It’s possible to run out of positive adjectives for its superlative location, buildings, landscaping, facilities and guest culture. Think everything you need from a luxury holiday resort, beautifully bundled into an authentic Arabian palace. Domes, arches, statues, calm bodies of water and lush gardens add to its ‘other worldliness’.
Atlantis the Palm offers five-star luxury too, in one of the most stunning buildings on the Arabian Gulf. It includes the Aquaventure Waterpark and The Lost Chambers Aquarium.
This Dubai hotel has been dubbed ‘the ultimate holiday destination’ with good reason. Booking a suite at Atlantis Dubai could involve sleeping with the ocean’s most majestic creatures swimming passed your own personal window into the aquarium! This is also a place where the dining options will have you ‘all at sea’.
Sofitel the Palm is also situated on Dubai’s fascinating palm island. The Sofitel beach resort has a French-Polynesian vibe and some of the most beguiling views of Dubai!
As with the other accommodation mentioned in this article, this Dubai luxury hotel has a lovely spa, gracious and extensive dining experiences, and refreshing grounds and pools that ooze calm. The rooms and balconies are gorgeous.
Other Dubai hotels that are worth mentioning, especially for family holidays to Dubai are The Ritz-Carlton Dubai and the Manor House at One&Only The Palm. Both have family facilities to entertain for all ages and exclusive luxury Spa’s for parents to unwind and relax.
