Comfort and peace are two of the most important considerations when flying. Both business class and first class provide amenities and luxuries that alleviate the stress and discomfort of flying.
Economy class has a clear difference as it has standard seats, no extra space and no inclusive benefits; but what’s the difference between business class and first class? Business class and first class flights are both considered different types of luxury, but there aren’t as many differences as you may originally think.
Differences in business and first class flights can vary depending on the airline and whether the flight is international or domestic. First class flights are renowned for their impeccable service and extra niceties. They tend to offer more privacy features like a longer, larger and wider seat, sometimes a ‘wall’ for privacy, but on most long haul carriers, both business and first tend to offer fully flat beds.
First class flights have added extras which increase comfort on the flight: there will often be more flight attendants to ensure passengers’ needs are met, perks are received like silk pyjamas and duvets for long-haul flights, and also the finest gourmet food and wine are an inclusive benefit for first class travellers.
But perhaps the biggest difference between first class and business class flights is the price. First class flights cost a lot more than business class flights, and can sometimes cost up to twice the price.
There are many similarities between the two classes. Mileage bonuses on frequent flier programmes are practically the same in business and first class, so the differences in the customer loyalty programmes are minimal.
The airport lounges are frequently shared by both first and business class flyers, and usually have showers, food and drink, and some lounges even offer nap rooms. There is an ever-decreasing difference between business class and first class, yet they are both much more spacious, comfortable and peaceful than economy seating.
Virgin Atlantic distinguished the similarities between business and first class flights by blurring the lines of the two; they now offer the Upper Class suite which acts as a first class product at a business class price.
There are several differences and similarities between business class and first class flights. Ultimately, price is a large factor which will affect which class you choose to fly in. There are many similarities between the two, but the main difference is the price!
It is up to you whether you would like to spend more money to receive the added bonuses from first class.
